Content Moderation Policy

This page explains what is and isn't allowed in content you can publish through LinguaLume — public manuscript pages you choose to share, and posts, comments, and reactions in the Community — and what happens when something gets reported.

This policy applies to content a user chooses to make visible to others. It doesn't apply to stories you generate for your own private reading, which aren't reviewed by anyone unless you publish them.

What's not allowed

Regardless of context — including fiction — the following are never allowed in content you publish:

• Sexual content involving minors. Zero tolerance, no exception for fictional framing. This is the one line we never soften for genre or storytelling context.
• Credible threats of violence against a real person or group.
• Hate speech or hate propaganda targeting real people or groups based on who they are.
• Explicit sexual content.
• Promotion or instructions for self-harm or suicide. (Fiction that depicts a character's struggle honestly is not the same as content that encourages or instructs — see the note on fiction below.)
• Harassment or impersonation of a real person, including staff or other members.
• Spam, scams, or undisclosed advertising.
• Sharing someone else's personal information (address, phone number, financial details) without consent.
• Pasting copyrighted text you don't have the right to share — quote or reference it instead (the Lingua Library's reference tools exist for exactly this).

Fiction is allowed to be fiction

LinguaLume publishes and hosts genre fiction — including horror, thriller, and adventure stories with real peril, conflict, and violence. A story depicting a fight, a chase, a monster, or a character in danger is not, by itself, a violation. We draw the line at content that reads as gratuitous gore, or as actually encouraging harm rather than depicting it — not at the presence of conflict or fear in a story. Stories carry a level/genre badge so readers know roughly what they're getting into.

How automated screening works

Before a public manuscript page or Community post becomes visible to anyone else, it passes through an automated content check. In brief:

• The text is screened by an AI moderation system before publishing.
• The bar is set differently for different kinds of content: for a small number of things (like sexual content involving minors), any flag blocks publishing, no exceptions. For most other categories, the bar is set high enough that ordinary genre fiction — a fight scene, a scary villain, a character's grief — passes, while content that's actually gratuitous or targets real people does not.
• If our moderation check can't run for some reason, we fail closed — the content doesn't go public until it can be checked, rather than publishing unchecked.
• Most posts pass instantly and the author never notices this step happened.

This is an automated first pass, not a guarantee that every published piece has been read by a person before it's visible — human review happens through reports (below), and may also happen before or after publication at our discretion.

How reporting works

Every public manuscript page and every Community post, comment, and profile has a Report button. Use it any time something feels wrong — you don't need to be certain, just tell us what you saw.

• A report is reviewed by a person. It is not auto-resolved.
• If a piece of content receives reports from more than one person, it may be temporarily hidden from public view while it's reviewed — this is a precaution, not a verdict; it can be restored if the review clears it.
• If we remove something following a report or our own review, we make a reasonable effort to tell the author why.
• Reports and moderation actions may result in content removal, and for serious or repeated violations, suspension of the account's ability to post or, in serious cases, of the account itself.

If something isn't covered by a Report button you can find — a report about the report system, or anything else — email support@lingualume.com.

Appeals

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, email support@lingualume.com and tell us what was removed and why you think it shouldn't have been. A person reviews every appeal; we're not able to guarantee a specific turnaround time today, but we read every message.
